My Daughter’s Amazing Girls on the Run Journey

Last week, my heart absolutely burst with pride! My daughter completed her first-ever 5K through the Girls on the Run program, and I had the incredible honor of being her running buddy for the big event.

When she first joined Girls on the Run, she wasn’t a runner at all. In fact, she hadn’t done any specific running training before joining the program. But that’s exactly what makes this accomplishment so remarkable and what makes this program so special.

Girls on the Run isn’t just about physical activity – it’s about building confidence, developing inner strength, and discovering what these amazing young girls are truly capable of. Week after week, I watched as my daughter and her teammates supported each other, pushed through challenges, and gradually built the resilience they would need for today’s 5K.

The transformation has been nothing short of inspirational. From “I can’t do this” to crossing the finish line with a beaming smile – the journey has taught her that she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to. The coaches created an environment where every girl felt empowered to try their best, regardless of athletic ability or experience.

As her running buddy, I got to witness firsthand the determination in her eyes, the support from her teammates, and the pure joy that came from accomplishing something she once thought impossible. Running alongside these young girls as they encouraged each other with high-fives and words of support reminded me of why programs like this are so vital.

To all the Girls on the Run coaches, volunteers, and supporters – thank you for creating a space where our girls can develop self-confidence, embrace their strength, and build healthy habits that will last a lifetime. And to my incredible daughter – your perseverance and positive attitude inspire me more than you’ll ever know.

Here’s to many more finish lines in your future, but more importantly, to the confidence, courage, and character you’re developing along the way. I couldn’t be prouder to be your mom and your running buddy!

Has your child participated in Girls on the Run or a similar program? I’d love to hear about your experience
